A few tips to make the examination go smoothly, plus the full scope of tests.
Preparation
How to prepare for the examination?
- The patient should be well rested.
- Before the examination, electronic devices such as a smartphone or tablet should not be used.
- Please bring any documentation of your treatment history and/or vision correction, as well as your current spectacle correction.
- If you take any medication, please let us know before the examination begins.
- If the patient wears contact lenses, they should be removed at least 30 minutes before the examination.

Scope of examination
What does the examination include?
Depending on the patient's needs, I perform an optometric examination, an orthoptic examination, or both.
Optometric examination
- assessment of visual acuity with and without current correction
- objective assessment of refractive error
- subjective assessment of refractive error using a phoropter
- assessment of binocular vision
- evaluation of visual quality with the selected spectacle correction placed in a trial frame
- if needed, selection of spectacle correction for near distances
- evaluation of the anterior segment using a slit lamp
- measurement of intraocular pressure
Orthoptic examination
- assessment of visual acuity by various methods at distance and near
- detection of amblyopia
- assessment of convergence
- evaluation of fixation
- stereoscopic vision test
- colour vision test
- examination of eye movements
- assessment of accommodation
- assessment of visual localisation
- detection of manifest and latent strabismus
- assessment of the angle of strabismus by selected methods
- synoptophore examination (angle of strabismus, fusion and its ranges, stereopsis, retinal correspondence)

Frequently asked questions
I've gathered answers to the questions I hear most often. Can't find yours? Call me — I'll gladly help.
Do I need to book an appointment in advance?
Yes. All visits are by prior telephone appointment — this way I can take my time with each patient, without rushing.
From what age can a child's eyes be examined?
It's worth checking a child's vision as early as preschool age, and I adapt the scope of the examination to the child's age and abilities. If you're not sure whether it's the right time yet, just call — I'll gladly advise you.
How should I prepare my child (or myself) for the examination?
The patient should be well rested and avoid using a smartphone or tablet beforehand. It helps to bring any previous documentation and your current glasses, and contact lenses should be removed at least 30 minutes before the examination. You will find the full checklist in the preparation section above.
What's the difference between an optometric and an orthoptic examination?
An optometric examination focuses on visual acuity and selecting spectacle correction. An orthoptic examination assesses how both eyes work together — convergence, binocular vision, strabismus or amblyopia — and helps plan vision therapy. When needed, I perform both.
Is the examination painful or unpleasant for a child?
No. The examinations are completely non-invasive and painless, and the warm, family atmosphere of the clinic makes them feel more like good fun than a stressful visit for a child.
Do you also see adults?
Yes. Diagnostics and vision therapy are tailored to each patient's age and needs — both children and adults are welcome.
How much does an examination cost?
Details and the current price list are arranged individually, depending on the scope of the examination. It's best to call — I'll give you all the information and help find a convenient time.
