What I do

What does the orthoptic clinic do?

Three areas where I help patients young and old — from examination, through diagnosis, to vision therapy.

Optometric examination

May consist of:

  • assessment of refractive error
  • selection of spectacle correction
  • fitting of contact lenses
  • assessment of binocular vision
  • assessment of accommodation parameters
  • evaluation of the anterior segment of the eye
  • assessment of depth perception

Orthoptic diagnosis

Allows detection of:

  • strabismus (squint)
  • amblyopia
  • convergence insufficiency or excess
  • accommodative disorders
  • binocular vision disorders
  • extraocular muscle dysfunction
  • sensory integration disorders
  • coordination problems
  • cortical visual impairment
  • vision-related learning difficulties at school

Vision therapy

Aims to:

  • increase fusional reserves that help compensate for strabismus angles
  • improve visual perception
  • reduce the degree of amblyopia — improving visual acuity
  • enhance visual-motor coordination
  • normalise accommodation and convergence parameters
  • increase visual attention
  • improve and establish binocular vision
  • develop spatial orientation and depth perception
  • stimulate central vision
  • improve visual interpretation and processing
  • prepare the patient before strabismus correction surgery
Klaudia Nowicka — optometrist and orthoptist

About me

Klaudia Nowicka

optometrist & orthoptist

My name is Klaudia Nowicka, and I am a qualified optometrist and orthoptist — in other words, the specialist for eyes with all kinds of visual dysfunctions.

The knowledge gained at numerous training courses and conferences, together with my experience in vision therapy with children, allows me to combine the two specialisations of the single field I represent. Every exercise plan I draw up is preceded by an assessment of the child’s functional vision, so that I can be sure of the stage at which we are beginning therapy.
